The Irving Fire Department recently received the first “Recognized Best Practices Fire Department” from the Texas Fire Chiefs Association. Texas is the first state in the country to implement a state accreditation program and Irving is the only city that has completed the program and received the Best Practices Fire Department designation.

The department also snagged another award. Interim Fire Chief Victor Conley was named Fire Chief of the Year by the Texas Fire Chiefs Association. Chief Robert Isbell, past president of the association, said that Chief Conley received the recognition for the innovative programs that he put into place while implementing the Best Practices Program.
