Fall in Collin County: More Than Just Pumpkin Patches
Fall is one of the best times to get out and enjoy life in Collin County. The air gets crisper, the trees show off their seasonal color, and the community feels alive with possibilities. Around here, we believe Life is Relationships… everything else is details. That means fall is the perfect excuse to slow down and make memories with the people who matter most, whether that’s family, friends, or your favorite neighbor.
Instead of pointing you to the same old pumpkin patches, we’re highlighting a few lesser-known but truly special events and locations happening in and around Wylie, Plano, and McKinney this fall. These are the kinds of experiences that bring people together, spark connection, and remind us what makes Collin County such a wonderful place to live.
1. Walk the Trails at Heard Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary (McKinney)
If you love stepping into nature, observing wildlife, or wandering scenic trails, this one’s for you. The Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary in McKinney spans nearly 289 acres of preserved land with five miles of trails through prairies, wetlands, and forests.
Inside, you’ll find interactive exhibits on fossils, geology, and native Texas wildlife. There’s also a butterfly house, wildflower gardens, and animal ambassadors that teach about conservation.
Whether it’s a family adventure or a peaceful walk with a friend, the Heard is a beautiful reminder that nature is right in our own backyard.
2. Celebrate Community at the Plano International Festival (October 18)
Looking for color, culture, and community in one joyful afternoon? Make plans to attend the Plano International Festival at Haggard Park on October 18 from 11 AM to 5 PM.
You’ll find:
Live global music and dance performances
Delicious international cuisine
Art exhibits and vendor booths
Hands-on activities and wellness workshops
It’s a fantastic way to introduce kids (and grown-ups) to cultures from around the world, without ever leaving Collin County.
3. Pumpkin Toss & Fall Festival at In-Sync Exotics (Wylie – November 1)
Sure, we said no pumpkin patches…but this one has a twist!
The Pumpkin Toss & Fall Festival at In-Sync Exotics in Wylie happens on November 1 from 11 AM to 2 PM. This wildlife sanctuary is home to rescued tigers, lions, leopards, and more, and after Halloween, they enjoy their own pumpkin celebration!
Watch as big cats pounce, roll, and smash leftover pumpkins in a wildly fun (and adorable) enrichment activity. Visitors can explore the sanctuary, learn about the animals, and support ongoing conservation efforts.
It’s a perfect mix of fall fun, education, and giving back.
4. The Wall That Heals: Honoring Veterans in Wylie (Oct 30–Nov 2)
Some fall events go beyond fun and bring us moments of deep reflection.
The Wall That Heals is a traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., and it’s coming to Founders Park in Wylie from October 30 to November 2, 2025.
This exhibit honors the more than 58,000 service members who gave their lives during the Vietnam War. It’s open 24 hours a day, and includes:
A parade escort (October 28)
Opening ceremony (October 30 at 6 PM)
Taps at sunset each evening
For many—including our own families—this memorial hits close to home. It’s a powerful opportunity to teach the next generation about service, sacrifice, and gratitude.

Bonus Tip: Make Time for Memory-Making
Whether you’re enjoying nature, sharing global cuisine, or watching a tiger crush a pumpkin, fall is about connection. These moments, big and small, build the memories we’ll carry into every season.
And that’s why we love sharing local gems like these with the FireBoss Family. Because the best places are the ones you experience together.
