The Sound of Music is playing on the Lyric Stage at the Irving Arts Center through Sunday.

The original play based in the Alps of Salzburg first opened in 1959 as the final collaboration between the famous musical duo Rodgers & Hammerstein. With Theodore Bikel as the first Baron Von Trapp and a book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, the play became one of the best known creations between the two musical geniuses. Following the lives of the Von Trapp family as they experience the upheaval of their country thanks to World War II, the story has captured the hearts of audiences for generations.

With only four performances left, you don’t want to miss this classic musical presented with a 38 piece acoustic orchestra playing the original Broadway score. Cheryl Denson directs the production and Jay Dias music directs and conducts the Lyric Stage Orchestra. Choreography is by Ann Nieman. The design team includes Jane Quetin (properties), Bill Eickenloff (sound), Julie Simmons (lighting) Jeffrey Meek (costumes) and James Fouchard (sets). Production stage manager is Margaret J. Soch.

Remaining performances are scheduled for September 12th, 13th & 14th at 8:00 pm and a matinee on September 15th at 2:30 pm. Ticket prices range from $25.00 to $53.00.
